Update log: September 6, 2026 - we removed a Reolink cloud-storage price from this selector rather than update it, because we could not stand behind it. The entry said "optional cloud from ~$5.99/mo for one camera, ~$6.99/mo for up to five" and linked to the Reolink home page, which states neither figure. Checked on September 6, 2026: Reolink's own cloud plan page at cloud.reolink.com/cloud-plan shows the plan features but no price at all before you sign in, and the one Reolink-owned page that does publish figures, its 2026 subscription-cost article, contradicts itself. It prices the Standard Plan at "USD 6.99 per month" in the plan box, then tells readers to "split the USD 3.49 five ways" for that same five-camera plan, then elsewhere calls the single-device plan "the USD 3 plan" while its own plan box says "USD 5.99 per month (regular price USD 4.29, 30 % off)", a discount higher than the regular price it is discounted from. We are not able to say which of those is the real number, so we no longer print one. What did not change: Reolink cameras genuinely need no subscription to record, which is stated consistently by Reolink and is the reason the brand is on this list. Camera prices and the recommendation itself are unchanged.
Update log: September 4, 2026 - three fixes, none of which changed a recommendation. (1) This module carried a blanket line saying "Prices verified July 12, 2026", which was not true in either direction: the SimpliSafe and Cove entries had been re-read in late August, while the Ring, Reolink, eufy and Frontpoint entries carried no date at all. Every figure now states the date we read it. (2) The eufy entry said "Cameras from ~$42.99". Read at eufy.com on September 4, 2026, $42.99 is the Indoor Cam C120 on a fixed $17 discount that eufy's own store data shows running from August 24 to September 7, 2026, so it is a sale price and not an entry price. The entry now says so and leads with the SoloCam S340 list price instead. (3) The Frontpoint entry quoted $44.99 and $49.99 while linking to the Frontpoint home page, which states neither figure. Frontpoint's monitoring page moved to daily rates only, but its offer-details page still publishes both monthly prices verbatim, plus the 36-month term and the 80% early-termination fee. The entry now links there and names the termination fee. No figure was rewritten.
Update log: August 28, 2026 - the Cove entry in this selector was quoting $22.99, $32.99 and $42.99 a month. Cove publishes no monthly price for any plan; its own plan page lists daily rates only ($0.77, $1.10 and $1.43, read 2026-08-28). The entry now gives the published daily rates with a conversion at 365 days ÷ 12 labelled as ours. This is the same correction made for SimpliSafe on August 26, which had been scoped to SimpliSafe alone and left Cove wrong for two days. No recommendation logic was changed.
Update log: August 26, 2026 - the three SimpliSafe entries in this selector were quoting $22.99 to $32.99 a month. SimpliSafe publishes no monthly price for any plan; its own plan page lists daily rates only (read 2026-08-26), and the URL that used to carry the monthly figures returns SimpliSafe's own "Page not found". Each entry now gives the published daily rate with a conversion labelled as ours. No recommendation logic was changed.
