About this site

Home Security Systems & Alarms is an independent, research-based consumer guide. We help people understand home security systems, alarm monitoring, costs, and contracts - in plain English, without scare tactics.

What we are

We are a small, independent publishing operation. We are not owned by, affiliated with, or sponsored by any security company, alarm manufacturer, or monitoring service. Nobody pays to be recommended here, and nobody can pay to be ranked higher.

We follow an editorial team model: content is planned, researched, and reviewed as a team effort under a single owner's oversight, rather than being attributed to invented individual personas. We would rather be honest about being a small operation than dress the site up with credentials we don't have.

How our research works

We want to be upfront about something most review sites gloss over: our work is based on documented desk research, not hands-on lab testing. That means:

Desk research done carefully has real advantages: it covers contract terms, fee schedules, and cancellation policies that a two-week gadget review never touches. But it also has limits - we can't tell you how a specific camera performs in the rain, because we haven't put one in the rain. Where hands-on experience matters, we say so and point you toward what to check yourself. The full details are in our methodology.

How we make money

Some links on this site may earn us a commission at no extra cost to you. Commissions never influence what we recommend or how we rank anything. Our affiliate disclosure explains exactly where things stand, including which partnerships are currently active (as of this writing: none).
